Frequently asked questions
Common questions
If your question is not here, please call us or send a message. We reply to every enquiry.
For weddings, we recommend booking at least 12 months ahead; popular summer Saturdays can go much earlier. For proms, aim for 6 months or more since the season runs May to July and fills quickly. For funerals, we understand that timings are out of your hands. Call us as soon as you know the date and we will do everything we can to accommodate you, including same-day if necessary. For private rides and private hire, a few weeks is usually enough outside of peak season, but call early to be safe.
Our home patch is Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland, with no travel supplement within these counties. We also take bookings in Cambridgeshire, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and parts of Norfolk, where a travel element is quoted upfront before you commit. If you are unsure, just call us and we will tell you exactly where you stand. See our coverage area page for full details.
The Landau comfortably seats four passengers. The wagonette carries larger groups; exact capacity depends on the arrangement, so please discuss your group size with us when enquiring. For weddings and funerals, capacity arrangements are always confirmed before the day so there are no surprises.
We can arrange floral decorations, ribbons and other carriage dressing to suit your event. Discuss it with Sarah when you book; she will advise on what works well with the carriage and your colour scheme, and help source or coordinate the finishing details.
We discuss weather contingencies with you in advance of your event. The carriages can be partially or fully enclosed depending on conditions, and we have experience managing arrangements in all weather. We have never let a client down because of rain. For weddings in particular, we will have a clear plan agreed before the day so that whatever the weather, you know exactly what will happen.
Yes, viewing visits are welcome by appointment. Many clients like to meet Boris, Marcus and the Lippizaners, see the carriages up close, and get a feel for the operation before committing. It also gives Sarah and Danny a chance to understand exactly what you want. Just call or email to arrange a convenient time.
Yes. Our horses are experienced working professionals. Boris and Marcus (our black Gelderlander/KWPN warmbloods) and the grey Lippizaners have worked on film and TV sets, handled drone footage overhead, performed at Olympia and Wembley, worked at busy venues with crowds and loud music, and processed along public roads. They are calm, reliable and well-trained. If your venue has specific considerations such as pyrotechnics, aircraft or unusual noise, let us know and we can discuss it honestly.
Yes. We work both directly with families and alongside funeral directors. If you have already appointed a director, simply let them know you would like to use DK Carriage Horses and ask them to contact us. We handle everything from there. If you are making arrangements independently, we can guide you through the process. We are experienced working with funeral directors across Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.
Yes, gift vouchers are available for carriage rides and driving experiences. They make a genuinely memorable gift for anniversaries, birthdays or as a treat for someone who loves horses and the countryside. Contact us to arrange a voucher and we will sort out the details.
Every quote is specific to your booking. In general, the price includes the horses, carriage, coachman in full livery, and the agreed duration and route. For weddings and funerals, everything is confirmed in writing before you commit so you know exactly what is covered. There are no hidden extras in our home counties. For extended areas, the travel element is quoted upfront. We will always be clear about costs, as it is one of the things clients consistently mention in their feedback.
